• The Search for Auriga - Release!

    Hi guys,

Today is the release of our 5th add-on for Disharmony:

    The Search for Auriga.

    THE SEARCH FOR AURIGA

Generations ago, Nadjne Zolya made room for Opbot in an overcrowded ship leaving a dying planet. Though Opbot was a skilled medical operative, he had accepted that the humanoids would save themselves first and leave him to decay as magneto-gravitational cataclysms made the planet of Auriga unlivable. Surprised by their offer, Opbot repayed the Zolya can for decades, then centuries, as their restless, homeless clans moved from planet to planet, system to system, and battle to battle.

Driven from their simple tundra world by a fleet of pirates, they once again took up the life of homeless marauders. It was then that Opbot had the idea to rediscover Auriga; an idea that quickly blossomed in to an all-consuming passion. But memories are faulty, galaxies move, and records are often missing or poorly kept; it turned out to be far more complex than he thought.

It was hundreds of years later that he was sure enough of his findings to present them to a very hesitant Tulela. But Opbot told her of what he remembered: Endless warrens of laboratories, storehouses of knowledge, ruins and artifacts scattered across the landscape like pebbles on a beach. In the end, Tulela agreed to seek that lost and fabled planet.
As their tiny fleet arrives, other civilizations that have tracked them or searched themselves for the planet begin to appear; the name of Auriga is famed across the settled galaxy. Auriga will once again become a focus of war and strife, for whatever faction can find, and hold, this precious world will have access to the greatest scientific wisdom of the galaxy.

When I got the update through steam it deleted all of the music in the soundtrack folder except for Battlescenes II & III as well as The Harmony. I don't know if this is intended, and the files have just been moved, or this is a bug, so I thought I'd mention it just in case.

No fix for the retreat bug on Mac? I really do not like having to use Auto resolve for my battles.

Maybe I have missread something, but I thought the slug weapons module needed to be fixed, since High isotope slugs gives higher damage output compared to it's upgrade "ultradense slugs", while everything else is the same except that ultradense slugs got a higher military power strenght.

-I am quite intrested if those buffes make the Harmony powerful as the other races are mhh

-also "-50% damage for weapon firing in another range as they are made for" (thats a huge penalty maybe even to high)

-!Divided damage done by bombers per 2! think thats a overnerf regarding no one ever uses the first tier of Bombers anyway.

Indeed. I'm scared this is just going to cause long range weapons to dominate the scene with all races except when your against shredyn, because otherwise it might just turn into
      'long-range phase' -> 'run away'
since there will now be almost no point to keeping a long range fleet in battle after the long-range phase

I am not convinced that the changes to the Harmony are enough to make them compete with the other factions, but I still love them and am confident the devs will continue to work on balancing. And the changes are definitely appreciated! As to the rest: the changes seem to be pretty cool and solid. I started up a game and Augria got found in like the tenth turn, not by me, I think it's on the other side of the galaxy, so I haven't gotten to see how it affects the flow of the game yet!

E-Space is largely unrecognizable from the game I played when it was originally released. The devs have gladly added heaps of new features that flesh out the game, most of them for free. I see people complain that E-Space isn't as epic as Galactic Civilizations II or Masters of Orion II, and indeed, while the supporters of the former* are correct, it is still a great game and it's been awesome to see it come along and evolve as time has gone on. I can't wait to see how it continues to develop. =) You guys rock.

Also, I don't understand the near fanatical worship of Masters of Orion II. From the perspective of its time, released when I was four years old, it's great, but having played it extensively, I cannot see many reasons to prefer it over modern games except nostalgia.

Thank you so much for removing the auto battle timeout in single player games. Made the game a lot more enjoyable and I really love you for finally adding the magnify button on notificatons. Smooooooothing gameplay!

Too early to comment on the A.I. and balancing changes though, but looks promising.

One annoying oversight that should be easy to fix is the wrong weapon descriptions in the tech tree, all kinds of weapon techs are still listed as "beam weapon".

Actually means: we doubled bomber damage. They also increased the firing rate of Point Defense systems from 3 to 5.

Probably because MOO2 managed to combine every aspect of what we call a 4X game with balance, turn-based combat, choices that mattered and near-perfect diplomacy like, 20 years ago and no one has really done it since.

Well, maybe Civilization and Alpha Centauri. Those are great games, too. But Master of Orion set the standard and made a very full and balanced game and for some reason, no one has taken the formula and just applied modern-day aesthetics and gameplay innovations. Instead, we get partial games like ES or Stardrive or others that do a lot of things right, but fall short of what makes a game legendary, when then could just look to MOO for an example.

Imagine ES with flavor texts, diplomacy screens that show a hologram of the race you're speaking with, a research screen with your alien researcher talking about your recent discovery, ground combat screens that are fun to watch, spies, and all sorts of stuff that MASTER OF ORION ALREADY DID and then come back to me with "I don't understand the fanatical worship". It's still a better game, retro graphics and all, than just about every other sci-fi 4X game in existence.

      So yeah....

^^ The problem being that you can have all the right elements for immersion, but they can be easily ruined by terrible graphics (yes, at this point I consider MOOIIs graphics to be terrible) So thats why I no longer play MOO series. But we are kinda getting off topic
